HOLLYWOOD
CONFERENCE
Connell summoned
four well-known Hollywood personalities to co-author "Hollywood
Conference." These writers, led by Nunnally Johnson, included
Patterson McNutt, Gene Fowler Jr., and Grover Jones. Ironically,
they placed their own names into the script as the characters
of this one act play. Will Connell's intention was to have
readers of "In Pictures" interpret his carefully sequenced
photographs (in order) along with juxtaposed block-lettered
captions and pages of script. By joining text with pictures,
Connell created a multi-layered expression, teeming with,
insider dialogue, visual puns and satirical imagery.
