Introduction

George Faitzer-Feroff   (Russian 1886 - 1955)

Faitzer-Feroff was born in Khabarovsk, Russia in 1886. At the age of sixteen, he built his first camera and became fascinated with photography. He graduated from the School of Engineering in Khabarovsk.

During the Russian revolution in 1918 he was appointed as head staff photographer at the American Red Cross headquarters in Vladivostok. In 1921, he and his wife were invited to the United States by the U,S, government. They settled in New York City, where he established a studio and specialized in portraiture. He became known to many famous artists in the musical world.

In 1930, he experimented with color photography. Faitzer-Feroff built his first one shot color camera in 1933, and worked with the Carbro color process. A couple of years later he sold the camera to the Grey-O'Reilly studios, built a lab for the Carbro process, and taught them the use of the camera and the process. In 1934, he established his own studio, and built another one shot camera using aluminum.
