The achievement of June 15, 1878, along with the successful series of photographs made four days later of another galloping horse, encouraged Muybridge to continue in the photographic study of animal movements.

During the summer of 1878, Stanford was again beneficial to Muybridge's research. His financial contributions and supply of several horses on the Palo Alto Stock Farm impelled the exploration to advance.

By June 20th, Muybridge had produced six serial photographs of running, cantering and trotting horses. The publication of six photographic cards, entitled The Horse in Motion, achieved world-wide attention and praise.

This success led to more studies of animal locomotion and Muybridge expanded his milieu to 24 cameras and various animals. such as deer. dog, ox, bull, cow, goat and boar. These animals were depicted in the actions of walking, ambling, cantering, pacing, trotting, running, leaping, standing, and hauling.
