Let's Play Ball!

RIVERSIDE, CA
UCR / California Museum of Photography

The Keystone-Mast Collection, preserved at UCR California Museum of Photography, holds a vast resource of stereoscopic images made
all over the world in the decades around the turn of the century. Among its many treasures are images depicting the exhilarating world of sports.

Featuring stereo photographs of the greatest moments of athletics and the heroes and legends that made these moments happen, this Web project is a pictorial history of sports -- from a time before skyrocketing player salaries and lucrative product endorsements. Also included in this site are images highlighting various forms of recreation and athletic competion around the globe.

The following pages showcase images from 1900 through the late 1930's taken by early Keystone View Company stereographers. Although these photographs have never graced the pages of today's popular sports magazines and advertisements, they hold a significant role in portraying our love for the game.
