My companion's awareness, or lack thereof, of being filmed is not distinguishable on video. The awkwardness and strangeness of dating supplants the knowledge of being recorded on camera. I often find myself forgetting I am filming when I am caught up in the experience of the date.

Also, because I wear a hidden camera, the men - even if they know about the project - don't know the location of the lens. This relative invisibility helps to shift the focus away from being 'on camera.'

Furthermore, because surveillance is so pervasive in American society, many of my dates are fairly at ease being videotaped.
