The civil rights march assembled above Derry on the Creggan housing estate which overlooks the Bogside. it was a crisp, January Sunday afternoon. People ate their Sunday lunch and went off to the march, families went together, people took their children. People say that the march began with a carnival like atmosphere, it was to be a peaceful march.
