Maps
are an intermediary between perception and experience. So are photographs.
Because UCR/CMP continually strives to expand the boundaries of photography
and photographic practice we are pleased to present Alternate Routes,
an exhibition about the diversity, subjectivity, and meaning of maps.
Alternate
Routes includes the work of Valerie Tevere, Kerry Tribe, Joyce
Campbell and The Center for Land Use Interpretation as well as a selection
of historic maps from the archives of UCR, Riverside Municipal Museum,
Riverside Public Library, Riverside County Flood Control and Water
Conservation District, and Riverside City Hall. (FULL
ESSAY).
Alternate
Routes is made possible by a grant from the Archival Research Center,
Information Sciences Division, University of Southern California.
